Southampton Airport to offer more seats to Switzerland than ever before
Southampton Airport has announced that this winter it will be offering the most seats to Switzerland in its commercial history.
Over 15,000 seats to Switzerland will be on offer to passengers this ski season as well as flights to other ski destinations including Chambery, Lyon and Munich. Last year saw the airport offer 8,956 seats to Switzerland, this year there will be an increased 15,310 seats, marking a 70% increase year on year.
The largest contributing factor for the increased amount of ski seats to Switzerland is the airports two new airlines, easyJet and powdair, which will be operating throughout the ski season. easyJet will commence flights to Geneva, three times a week, from December 14th and powdair, a new airline for ski, will begin flights to Sion four times a week from December 15th. These new routes will mean that ski enthusiasts of the south can be hitting the slopes within as little as three hours when flying through their local airport.
Dave Lees, Managing Director at Southampton Airport, said “We are delighted to be able to offer the region even more choice for reaching the ski slopes this winter. The arrival of easyJet to Geneva and powdair to Sion in December, in addition to existing services by Flybe to Chambery, will mean that passengers can reach their favourite ski resorts in even less time from their favourite local airport.”
