Over 5,000 people attend Southampton Airport Careers Fair for 100 jobs in 2011
Southampton Airport held its first ever Careers Fair today to offer details of forthcoming jobs which will be available throughout 2011, which will total more than 100 permanent and seasonal roles. There are 1,200 local people who for 30 different companies at Southampton Airport, making it one of the regions largest employers.
The jobs available in 2011 will include airport security, ground handling such as check-in and baggage handling, retail and customer service roles. Visitors were able to meet with staff to understand more about jobs and the skills required. Recruitment contact details for the largest employers at Southampton Airport were also provided, so that people know how and where to apply for jobs.
The event was promoted via the airport website and through local media one week beforehand, and resulted in over 5,000 people attending to enquire about the 100 roles in 2011.

She said: “The first ever Southampton Airport Careers Fair has been a huge success, resulting in thousands of people visiting the airport to find out more on the variety of jobs that will be available here. The response has been overwhelming and more than anyone could have ever imagined for 100 posts.
“The CV’s and contact details of today’s visitors will be shared across our 30 airport companies to match people with the right skills to the roles that become available this year. The sheer level of interest reflects the popularity of Southampton Airport as a place to work, as well as the current local demand for work. We have met lots of really interesting people today, and hopefully for some this will be the start for their future careers here .”
