New rules at Chopin Airport
As of Monday, the 1st of June, it is planned to gradually resume air traffic at the Warsaw Chopin Airport. The activities of airport and security services will depend on the development of the epidemic situation within Poland, GIS (Chief Sanitary Inspectorate) and operational data regarding forecast air traffic at the Warsaw Chopin Airport.
Opening access to individual airport zones will be gradual, depending on the actual passenger traffic, acquired operational data regarding forecast air traffic, and taking into account the current epidemic situation worldwide and in Poland.
New principles of moving around a terminal
Departures - entrance
Persons welcoming or bidding farewell to passengers are forbidden to enter the terminal until further notice.
Access to Terminal A is restricted only for passengers with a valid flight ticket for the day of entering Terminal A, persons wanting to, among others, purchase a flight ticket, file a complaint or rebook a flight at the air carrier’s ticket office, persons assisting PRM or UM passengers but not being passengers themselves, and persons going to offices (among others, Customs, Boarder Guard, air carriers, entities operating within the terminal).
Passengers shall enter via two designated entrances in the CDE zone and two entrances in the AB zone. One entrance and exit at AB level 100 (arrivals) shall be designated for airport employees.
In order to enter the terminal, a passenger shall be obliged to show:
1. a flight ticket;
2. a boarding card (also in electronic form);
3. other document confirming air travel rights.
Prior to entering the terminal persons shall be subjected to access control, in order to confirm the purpose for entering the building. Every person shall also have their temperature measured - this applies both to passengers, as well as the employees.
Air carriers shall inform the passengers that persons with Coronavirus infection symptoms (e.g. elevated body temperature – 38 oC and more), which are identified by airport services, may not be allowed to take the trip. According to EASA recommendations, air carriers shall ask the passengers with disease symptoms not to go to the airport.
In the case of passenger groups or families with no obligation to observe the social distancing principle (a min. of 2 m apart), should elevated temperature (38 oC and above) be identified in one of the persons in such groups - the entire group shall be subjected to medical verification.
Each of the persons, for the entire duration of staying at the terminal, shall be absolutely obliged to wear protective face masks (or other accessories covering their mouth and nose) and disinfect hands after completing each of the check-in processes. Fluid dispensers have been placed in visible places throughout the entire terminal.
All users of the Chopin Airport have the duty to react to cases of persons staying within the Airport and not using personal protective equipment. A person who fails to comply with the aforementioned obligation to cover the face or wear a mask shall be reprimanded. In the event of a failure to comply with the duty to properly wear a protective face mask or cover the face (as per the currently applicable law and EASA guidelines), such persons can be removed from the Airport by security or State services.
Persons within the terminal shall be allowed to freely move between building levels (departures and arrivals).
The skywalk from the train station to the terminal will be out of service.
Departures – check-in
Every second check-in will be open. Desks will be equipped with special covers limiting direct contact between the personnel and passengers. Relevant queue management systems, for the purpose of maintaining separation, have been prepared in front of the desks. The number of check-ins will depend on the planned number of passengers.
The check-in desks will be assigned in all terminal zones, in order to ensure maximum separation.
At the time of resuming passenger traffic, it is not recommended for the passengers to arrive at the Warsaw Chopin Airport significantly earlier than before 15 March 2020, although they should follow the information received from the carrier.
Security check
The queuing system in front of the security check stands has also been improved. It has been optimized, taking into account the required social distance, in order to ensure an appropriate separation of 1.5 metres between waiting passengers.
The obligation to cover the nose and mouth is also in force during the security check.
In the case of a security check, ACS employees will be responsible for ensuring an appropriate queuing system, in accordance with applicable sanitary and epidemiological principles.
Security check for the employees is planned at the employee passages, at the departures level of zones AB and E.
Departures - transit
The queuing system with horizontal and vertical marking has also been introduced in the restricted zone of the terminal (Schengen and Non-Schengen). Seats with special marks ensuring the required distance between passengers awaiting their flight can be found throughout the entire terminal.
Every second gate will be used for passenger check-in. The boarding and deboarding procedures will also observe the social distancing principle.
The planned gate opening time will be extended to 60 min. for served by narrow-body aircraft and to 90 min. in the case of wide-body aircraft. The check-ins for a single flight will be conducted in one passenger skywalk (two gates can be used potentially), with no possibility for simultaneous boarding and deboarding in a single skywalk.
Every second PSG control cabins will be used for ID check in departures, as well as arrivals.
Arrivals
Domestic flight passengers shuttled for arrival to gate 33 or in the case of a contact gate (besides 1-3 and 15) enter level 300 of the terminal via a skywalk.
Passengers from Schengen destinations are transported by bus to a Non-Schengen entrance at terminal level 100 and pass through an ID check.
Passengers from Non-Schengen destinations enter the terminal via a skywalk at level 300 and pass through ID check.
Appropriate labelling in the baggage claim hall is to ensure passenger separation at the baggage carousels. Every second carousel will be available.
The passengers will be asked via the broadcasting system to leave the terminal building as soon as possible, and through indicated and marked doors.
Disinfection
All passageways (contact surfaces) will be routinely disinfected at least twice a day, using standard cleaning agents.
The check-in counter and gates will be disinfected after each flight and every time, in the case of Coronavirus infection in a given patient or employee.
The frequency of disinfecting baggage trolleys, and the trays for luggage and personal belongings used during the security check will depend on the volume of passenger traffic at a given security check stand.
Commercial and service outlets
A total of 6 “mask machines” will be located in front of the terminal building, at the departure level. It will enable purchasing personal protective equipment and antibacterial gels.
