Jetstar announces direct service from Wellington to the Gold Coast
09/09/2014
Central New Zealanders looking for a sunny escape will soon be able to hop over to the Gold Coast as Jetstar has announced a new direct service from Wellington to Coolangatta
Today’s announcement by Jetstar and Wellington Airport sees the beginning of the airline’s long awaited introduction of low cost, trans-Tasman services out of Wellington from mid-December.
“Jetstar will be the first new international airline to begin regular services to Wellington in more than 10 years and it is great to see their continued commitment to the region. This direct service to the Gold Coast is a huge win for Wellington and will add 50,000 seats to the trans-Tasman market,” said Steve Sanderson, Wellington Airport CEO.
“With onwards connections to Asia and around Australia, this route will provide greater options for residents in central New Zealand and also increase visitors to Wellington.”
Other than direct long-haul flights to Asia and North America, the service to Coolangatta is the most popular route requested by Wellingtonians and we are pleased to have been able to deliver this for residents.
“This service will be in high demand both here and across the ditch and will save significant time and cost for travellers that currently fly via Brisbane or Auckland. Around one in ten Gold Coast residents are New Zealand born, so there will now be a cost-effective, direct route not only for holiday makers but for family members wanting to travel home and visit loved ones.”
