Kota Bharu Airport Set To Grow as Aviation Training Centre
Kuala Lumpur, February 29 - Sultan Ismail Petra Airport, Kota Bharu is set to further contribute in the nation s aviation industry as the Asia Pacific Flight Training School, a newly certified flying academy received its first batch of international cadets.
Asia Pacific Flight Training School is the first flight academy in Malaysia to be
accorded private institution of higher learning status by the Higher Education
Ministry.
20 new cadets from Garuda Indonesia began their basic training at this academy
this week. The flying academy is located within the compound of Kota Bharu
airport.
Datuk Seri Bashir Ahmad, Managing Director of Malaysia Airports said:
"This is a good indication as domestic airport, in this case Kota Bharu,
has shown the potential to contribute positively towards the growth of the
aviation industry in Malaysia."
He added: "The opening of this newly certified flying academy will
translate into passenger growth and with the involvement of an international
airline like Garuda, will certainly see an increase in foreign investment,
which is good for the country."
Garuda Indonesia's Malaysia Country Manager, Tharian said: "The choice of
a Malaysian education for the new generation by the national flag-carrier of
the Republic of Indonesia will further strengthen ties between the two
countries."
