Glasgow focus for growth as easyJet introduce fifth based aircraft
easyJet has announced expansion plans at Glasgow Airport with the introduction of a fifth based aircraft. The addition of the new A320 aircraft will create around 50 jobs for Glasgow-based flight, cabin and ground crew.
The aircraft will remain based in Glasgow throughout the year, providing 340,000 more seats for passengers travelling to and from Glasgow. It joins two 156-seat Airbus A319 and two 186-seat A320 aircraft already serving the airline’s customers in Glasgow.
easyJet also announced a new route between Glasgow and Birmingham. The domestic city connection will operate 13 times a week throughout the year, with flights launching on 29 March 2020 and seats due to go on sale in the coming weeks
On 10 November 1995 easyJet’s first ever flight, EZY121, took off for Glasgow from London Luton. Since then easyJet has remained committed to the airport by maintaining a continuous operation and flying over 34 million passengers to and from Glasgow.
Today, easyJet is the largest airline in Glasgow and operates up to 294 flights a week across 19 routes. easyJet was the first airline to carry one million passengers in a year from Glasgow and the airline continues to see passenger numbers grow.
easyJet offers up to 10 flights a day from Glasgow to London airports Stansted, Luton and Gatwick, as well as up to three flights a day to Belfast and Bristol. In 2019 easyJet will see its domestic links from Glasgow increase by over 5%.
