Helsinki Airport connections to be further improved with new service to Gdansk
Helsinki Airport connections will be further improved next spring, when Finncomm Airlines launches new direct service to Gdansk. Beginning 27 March 2011, Finncomm will fly daily to Gdansk in co-operation with Finnair. In addition to existing routes to Warsaw and Krakow, the new Gdansk route offers a third destination in Poland served by Helsinki.
“The new Gdansk route enhances Helsinki Airport’s position as the leading transit airport in Northern Europe. The fastest connection from Gdansk to Asia is via Helsinki. The airport offers 10 daily flights to Asian destinations," says Senior Vice President and Marketing Director, Kimmo Ruotsalainen.
According to Juhani Pakari, Managing Director of Finncomm Airlines, the economy of Northern Poland is enjoying strong growth, and the direct connection is especially well-suited to business travellers. In addition to this, the region's three cities, Gdansk, Sopot and Gdynia, offer a wide variety of possibilities for leisure travel.
"Finncomm will serve the Gdansk route using state-of-the-art, energy-efficient ATR turboprop aircrafts, which are optimal for this type of service. They consume very little fuel, thus allowing us to also keep our fares quite low," says Pakari.
Finnair is also pleased with Finncomm's new service. "There's a great deal of demand for service to Asia in Poland, and Finnair offers the most direct route to Asia via Helsinki. Now, fast, convenient connections to Asia can also be easily made from Gdansk," explains Finnair Sales Director for East Central Europe Juhani Nuoramo.
