Race off To Le Mans From Leeds Bradford Airport
Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) and the region’s top race and road car manufacturer, Ginetta, joined forces this week to promote Yorkshire’s links with Le Mans and its world famous race track.
Ginetta produces their famous cars in a state-of-the-art factory at Garforth, Leeds. Ginetta’s boss Lawrence Tomlinson started racing in the Le Mans 24 hour race in 2004, competing and winning the Le Mans 24 hour GT2 class in a Panoz in 2006.
The Classic Le Mans 24 hours will take place on the 11 to 12th June this year, with direct access on Ryanair’s twice weekly flights from LBA to Nantes in the North West of France.
Lawrence Tomlinson, Chairman of LNT Group, said, “The Le Mans 24 hour race is one of the biggest events on the motorsport calendar so it’s fantastic that Ryanair have scheduled direct flights from Leeds Bradford to Nantes. If the sport becomes more accessible as a result of Ryanair’s new service, and more British fans are able attend, then this step forward is a very positive move.”
Tony Hallwood, Commercial Director at Leeds Bradford Airport, said, “As Yorkshire’s Gateway airport we are delighted to offer an easy route to the world renowned racing event at Le Mans. Visitors can be at the track experiencing the excitement and soak in the adrenalin of the event in just under 45 minutes from Nantes Airport."
Le Mans is perhaps best known for its two racetracks but for non racing enthusiasts the town itself offers a perfect weekend break with cobbled streets, half-timbered houses and Renaissance houses.
