Blue Islands announces new routes from Newcastle to Guernsey and Jersey
Channel Islands based airline, Blue Islands, has announced a boost for the islands’ air connectivity with the introduction of new flights from Guernsey and Jersey to Newcastle from May 2025.
The flights will take off from Saturday 3 May and will run throughout the summer 2025 season.
Non-stop flights will transform journeys between the Channel Islands and the North East of England's premier airport, and the choice of up to three weekly flights – on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays – will make short-breaks and weekend visits to relatives and friends possible for the first time in several years.
Blue Islands’ new direct flights will offer greater convenience and competitive prices versus flying into other airports in the north of England followed by challenging road or rail journeys to the North East.
“It’s exciting to expand the connectivity we proudly provide the Channel Islands.” says Ronnie Matheson, Blue Islands’ Chief Revenue Officer.
“Blue Islands’ new schedule will make a real difference for the many thousands of customers wishing to fly between the north-east, Guernsey and Jersey, whom we’re sure will welcome the choice of up to three direct flights each week. We’re confident that this will become a firm favourite in our route network.”
Flights will continue into early November 2025 to meet demand for those travelling during the school half-term holidays.
Year-round connections continue to be available from Newcastle via Southampton to the Channel Islands through Blue Islands’ long-standing partnership with Loganair; these can be booked as part of any itinerary complementing the new direct services.
Matt Thomas, Ports of Jersey’s Chief Executive, said: “Air connectivity plays a crucial role in fostering Jersey’s economic growth by attracting business investment and talented people, and improved air connectivity also enhances tourism, which benefits the economy.
"Therefore, it is encouraging to hear that Blue Islands is investing in increased connectivity to Newcastle for next summer and introducing a new region to their timetable.”
Ross Coppolo, Guernsey Ports’ Managing Director, said: “We are delighted to be working with Blue Islands to launch services to Newcastle Airport in 2025.
"The new service provides valuable connectivity to the north-east of England and is the result of a collaborative approach between Guernsey Ports, Blue Islands and Newcastle Airport increasing the destination options for the local community and those looking to travel to the Bailiwick in 2025.”
Chris Ion, Newcastle Airport’s Aviation Development Manager, said: “We are excited to welcome Blue Islands to Newcastle Airport.
"Jersey is a popular destination with passengers from the north-east of England, and this new route will provide more choice and flexibility when flying from Newcastle - whether for a short break or visiting family and friends.
"Guernsey is a new destination for next summer and is a fantastic addition to our growing route network at Newcastle Airport. I am confident these new services will be well received by customers wishing to explore the Channel Islands.”
