Brussels Charleroi Airport transported more than 300 000 passengers in April

An increase of 29% compared to April 2008

Brussels South Charleroi Airport (BSCA), the most accessible airport in Belgium, has carried more than 300 000 passengers in April, thereby for the first time surpassing the old record of 287 000 in August 2008. A total of 327 907 passengers were transported in April, representing an increase in growth of 29% compared to the same month last year.

Marcel Buelens, CEO of Brussels South Charleroi airport said enthusiastically: "2009 will be known as the year when Brussels South Charleroi beat all the records. In January, a great start was made with having a market share of 17,30% for the total number of passengers on the Belgian Market.  For the first time in history, our market share exceeded the 15% mark.  During the last 4 months, BSCA has processed 1 048 498 passengers; this is a growth increase of 20% compared to last year."

The opening of new destinations by Ryanair and Jetairfly at the end of March and the beginning of April have definitely contributed to these fantastic results. Moreover, the fact that the Easter holidays fell in April this year (Easter was in March last year) also helped.

The number of destinations on offer rise all the time, today we have 59. In April, FlyOnAir resumed its routes to Pescara and launched its new destination to Catania in Sicily. Ryanair is launching flights to Brindisi, Palma de Mallorca, Santiago and La Rochelle. In addition, the frequencies of flights to Fez, Turin, Manchester, Marseille and Riga have been increased for the summer season. We are looking forward to a busy and successful summer season.
