Increase in the number of passengers at BSCA: 8% rise for May 2017

Charleroi, 13 June 2017 – In May 2017, passenger numbers saw a healthy increase at Brussels South Charleroi Airport, compared with the results for May 2016. 701,773 passengers chose BSCA this year, representing an 8% increase on the same period last year. The occupancy rate has also increased by 2%. During the fifth month of 2017, the load factor for planes at Charleroi was 88% (compared with 86% in 2016).

This meant that May 2017 ended on a real high. Brussels South Charleroi Airport welcomed 701,773 passengers to its tarmac, compared with 649,810 in May 2016. This represents a clear increase in traffic. The load factor has also increased and is now at around 90%.

When it comes to the most popular countries available from Brussels South Charleroi Airport, it was Italy that came out on top in May 2017, followed by Spain, France and Morocco. Poland is still fifth in the classifications. The trend is therefore exactly the same for the first five months of the year, with a particular pull from Mediterranean countries.

Jean-Jacques CLOQUET, the CEO of Brussels South Charleroi Airport, was delighted with these results: “We are more than happy to see passenger numbers continue to go up at Charleroi. It proves that our airport is resisting the environment in which it is developing, thanks to the exceptional work of the whole team at BSCA and its partners. After positive results in May, and the exciting news announced during the first five months of the year (inauguration of terminal 2, arrival of Air Corsica on 26/03/2017, launch of Belavia’s activities on 27/04/2017), the month of June and the summer season are getting off to a great start. The fifth plane based here belonging to Belgian airline TUI fly, a Boeing 737-800 with a capacity of 189 seats, has arrived in Charleroi. With this new addition, the airline has launched its summer programme with seven new destinations, namely Sarajevo, Hurghada, Naples, Trieste, Essaouira, Ouarzazate and Tunis.”
