A fantastic 2017 season for Air Corsica: The airline announces its news for 2018
Corsican airline Air Corsica has had its fair share of passengers since it first landed on the tarmac at Brussels South Charleroi Airport last March. Its first season will come to a close on 12 November, with almost 50,000 seats sold on flights to Ajaccio and Bastia, accompanied by a 5% rise in available tickets in July 2017 to respond to the high demand in real time. After this clear success, Air Corsica continues to expand its services as next year, these two lines will be available from 28 March 2018 until the beginning of January 2019, representing an additional 20,000 seats for summer 2018. Plus there’s some more exciting news. The airline has announced the launch of a new route between Brussels South Charleroi Airport and Calvi, from 3 July 2018 until 28 August 2018, with one flight a week, on Tuesday, in an Airbus A320 with 180 seats, so more than 3,000 seats. In total, 24,000 extra seats will be available in summer 2018 between Corsica and Belgium, giving Air Corsica customers the opportunity to carry on travelling with the airline at competitive prices, which include a whole range of free services (choose your seat, baggage allowance etc.).
Launched in 1989, it is Corsica’s number one airline. Some 21,000 flights run annually to sixteen destinations in Belgium and France. More than 1.8 million passengers used the airline in 2017. The Air Corsica fleet boasts eleven planes; six ATR 72-500s, with a capacity of 70 seats, and five Airbus A320s, which can seat 180 passengers. The three routes available to Corsica from Brussels South Charleroi Airport are operated by the latter.
“We are very happy with our arrival at Charleroi Airport, as the results have exceeded our hopes, with an occupancy rate of 83%. They are also the outcome of a very good relationship between the teams at Brussels South Charleroi Airport and our own. Air Corsica is pleased to be able to expand its services for summer 2018 along with its links to its Belgian compatriots so that they can discover everything the island has to offer during the tail end of the season,” announced Hervé PIERRET, a Member of Air Corsica’s Management Board.
The Corsican airline is growing at Charleroi. Jean-Jacques CLOQUET, CEO of Brussels South Charleroi Airport, says that he is thrilled with this announcement: “Air Corsica is one of the airport’s biggest successes. As soon as it landed on the tarmac at BSCA, we knew that the demand was there. With its many tourist attractions, Corsica has enormous potential for Belgian travellers, as well as those from neighbouring countries. Thanks to these links between the Isle of Beauty and our own country, we give passengers the opportunity to explore the island, thanks to Air Corsica, at low prices and without any hassle.”
Tickets for flights to Calvi, Ajaccio and Bastia for the 2018 season are already available on the airline’s website, from €39 each way, including all taxes, hold baggage and additional services.
