5,19 million passengers in 2010!

An increase of 32% compared to 2009

Brussels South Charleroi Airport has closed 2010 with a new record in its number of passengers. In total, 5,195,372 passengers made use of the airport compared to 3,937,187 passengers in 2009; an increase of 32%!

Despite unforeseen circumstances affecting air travel in 2010, such as volcanic eruptions, air traffic controllers on strike and the heavy snowfall in December, the airport has managed to cater for over 5 million passengers. With this result, the BSCA has entered into a new category of airports like the airports of Nice, Alicante and Cancun.

The development of Brussels South Charleroi never stops. Jetairfly, started eight routes in 2010 (Algiers, Al Hoceima, Fez, Heraklion, Istanbul, Rhodes, Tangier and Toulon) and has already announced another one to Athens for the summer of 2011. Ryanair opened 14 routes in 2010 and has announced three new destinations for the summer of 2011: Perugia, Pescara and Volos. From March 2011, Wizz Air starts its new route to Belgrade and will increase its flight frequency to Prague.

Jean-Jacques Cloquet, CEO of BSCA, is thrilled:

"2010 was characterized by many new destinations at BSCA. 22 routes were launched and 5 new destinations have already been announced for 2011. We have achieved a remarkable result that has been made possible through the sheer hard work and full commitment of all our employees. For 2011 we expect a controlled growth in passenger numbers so we can continue to guarantee maximum comfort. We have started the first phase of construction works to extend the terminal, so from the summer of 2011 onwards, four additional gates will be operational. This will allow the airport better control of its growth and a solid basis for a more sustainable and responsible development of the airport in the future. "
