Christmas and New Year boost tourism in the Algarve
The region registered in December a 6.6% increase in hotel occupancy (provisional data)
According to the Association of Hotels and Tourism Units in the Algarve (AHETA) provisional data for December 2014 points to positive change in hotel occupancy, against the same period of 2013, which resulted in a 6.6% increase in turnover.
The values recorded, cover the overall average occupancy rate / room, which although provisional data, point to increases of 6.6%, for a total of 29% compared to 2013.
Contributing factors for this was the increase by 15.5% of Portuguese tourists and British (+10.1%), with the areas of Lagos / Sagres and Tavira registering a 4.4% increase and Vilamoura / Quarteira / Quinta do Lago 3.4%, the largest increases.
The area with the highest room occupancy rate was Monte Gordo / VRSA (48.4%) and in the opposite direction the area of Lagos / Sagres (19.3%). The main tourist area of the Algarve, Albufeira, reached an increase of 0.7%, translating into a room occupancy rate of 26.7 percent.
