Carbon accreditation renewed and improved by ACI Europe

As a result of the sustained and systematic application of a voluntary effort to manage the carbon emissions associated with ANA’s activity, ACI Europe renewed the Carbon Accreditation for the airports managed by the company. This year, ANA succeeded in renewing the Level 1 Mapping of the Airport Carbon Accreditation at the airports of Lisbon, Porto and Beja and was able to attain Level 2 (Reduction) at the airports of Faro, Madeira, Porto Santo, Ponta Delgada, Santa Maria, Horta and Flores.

Airport Carbon Accreditation is an initiative of ACI (Airports Council International) and is a specific programme for the management of carbon emissions at airports. Through this programme, ACI assesses and acknowledges the efforts made by airports to manage and reduce their carbon emissions, with four levels of recognition: "Mapping", 

"Reduction", "Optimisation” and “Neutrality”. This programme, which was begun by ACI Europe, was recently extended to the Asian-Pacific and African regions.

The “Mapping” level of accreditation means that ANA, a company belonging to the VINCI Airports Group, implemented a strategy for accounting for all the sources of CO2 emissions that are under its direct control. The “Reduction” level accreditation means that ANA not only knows what its CO2 emissions are, but also succeeded in reducing the corresponding carbon footprint. 

The calculation of the carbon footprint of the ANA airports is checked by an external, independent entity, which further reinforces the credibility of the emission levels stated by the company of the VINCI Airports Group.

The latest numbers released by ACI showed a total of 122 accredited airports, 90 in Europe, 24 in Asia, six in North America, one in Latin America/the Caribbean, and one in Africa. In the European region, the 90 accredited airports represent 66.3% of the total number of passengers.
