The Algarve welcomes international cultural tourism meeting
Faro is to the be the host city to the event
To be held on Wedensday the 3rd of June, the International Meeting of Cultural Tourism - Umayyad Project, is an event that draws on the creation of the Umayyad route that will go through the legacy of the Arab Umayyad dynasty in culture and heritage of several Mediterranean countries, including Portugal.
The international meeting held at the Municipal Museum of Faro, between 9:45 a.m. and 13:00.
This meeting is just one of several specific moments of the programed visit of the steering committee of the Umayyad project region as it will run several workshops and a walk on the 4th of June through Castro Marim, Alcoutim, Cacela Velha and Tavira, of which the last three sites containslocal Umayyad remains, dated 711-1031.
"Umayaad" or "Route Umayyad" is the tourist trail name that brings together seven countries linked to the Mediterranean - Italy, Tunisia, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Spain (Andalusia) and Portugal (Algarve) - and a common heritage to all of them: the inheritance of the Umayyads. In the Algarve region, the presence of this dynasty was felt for more than three centuries.
