The Portuguese Algarve reaches 88 Blue Flags

The European Blue Flag Association (ABAE) has recognised the quality of the Algarve’s beaches by awarding the region 88 Blue Flags, three more than in 2015. The Algarve is, once again, the Portuguese region with the most Blue Flags, even though the country itself beat its own record, surpassing its previous number of 299; there are 314 Blue Flag beaches in Portugal this year. With 25 awarded beaches, Albufeira has the most Blue Flags, followed by Vila do Bispo with 11 and Loulé with 10.
