The Algarve, the southern lands

Festive and multicultural, the most Mediterranean region of the Atlantic has the best beaches in Europe, golf and Portuguese culture and gastronomy. The Algarve usually wins the World Travel Award for Best Beach Destination in Europe. When it comes to beaches, Praia da Marinha features in Michelin’s guide for the top 100 beaches in the world. The region’s golf courses are great and Portugal was recognised as the World’s Best Golf Destination in 2014. But the Algarve is also synonym of cultural offer, and the region has many museums. Moreover, the region’s architecture is quite peculiar, due to its Arabic and Medieval influences. The region’s specialty is seafood and the most popular dishes are Cataplana and Caldeirada, which are two kinds of fish stews.
