Traffic rights between Moscow and Memmingen

Russia’s Kaluga International Airport will now be able to handle scheduled flights from Germany and has designated Memmingen Airport as a German destination.

Russia’s Kaluga International Airport will now be able to handle scheduled flights from Germany after authorities agreed to replace Perm with Kaluga as a Russian destination.

In addition, the Russian Federation has designated Memmingen Airport as a German destination.

The new Kaluga airport, located 160 km from Moscow, opened May 27, 2015. It was granted international status from Aug. 14.

International flights were launched Nov. 16 when Tadjikistan’s Asia Express Airline and Russia’s Ural Airlines flew into the new airport. Later, airberlin started 2X-weekly Airbus A319 charter service from Braunschweig (Germany)-Kaluga, which is operated on behalf of Volkswagen.

The Kaluga airport was constructed on the base of Grabtsevo Airport, which opened in the 1970s for regional flights, but closed early in the 2000s due to lack of financing. After reconstruction, it can handle 100 passengers per hour. The runway is designed for aircraft such as the A319, Boeing 737 and ATR 72. UTair operated its first technical 737-500 flight into Kaluga at the end of December 2014.
