The KeKaSa project, aimed at fostering sustainable international accessibility for tourism in the Lakeland Finland - Jyväskylä Region, is making significant strides towards a greener and more accessible future.

With a focus on minimizing greenhouse gas emissions caused by tourism growth, the project aims to support the sustainable development of the tourism industry and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the region.

Key Objectives:

1.      International Accessibility: The project focuses on both international arrivals to the Jyväskylä Region and internal mobility within the region’s nature destinations. Jyväskylä aims to position itself as an easily accessible destination for sustainable nature and wellness tourism.

2.      Pioneering Electronic Air Connections: Jyväskylä aspires to become one of the pilot areas for Finland’s first electronic air connections. This groundbreaking initiative will set the region apart as a responsible and forward-thinking tourism destination.

3.      Carbon-Neutral Solutions: The project seeks to develop and implement carbon-neutral solutions and operating models within the region’s tourism sector. These solutions will play a crucial role in reducing the environmental impact of travel.

4.      Digital Integration: Digital solutions will be promoted as an integral part of sustainable travel chains. By leveraging technology, the project aims to enhance accessibility and streamline travel experiences.

Strategies and Actions:

·        Air Traffic Sustainability: The project will promote sustainable opportunities for air travel, collaborating closely with Tampere and VR (the national railway operator) to build seamless travel chains.

·        Carbon-Wise Movement: Within the region, the project will develop regional cooperation chains and an internal logistics model. A tool for calculating the carbon footprint of travel chains will be launched, ensuring informed decision-making.

·        Digital Findability: Enhancing the digital-based findability of nature tourist destinations will make it easier for travellers to explore the region sustainably.

·        Awareness and Visibility: Working alongside key partners, the project will raise awareness of Jyväskylä Region as a sustainable destination. By showcasing its commitment to responsible tourism, the region aims to attract environmentally conscious travellers.

Alignment with EUSBSR Goals:

The KeKaSa project aligns with the Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region (EUSBSR), emphasizing connectivity and well-being. By investing in sustainable tourism, Jyväskylä Region contributes to the overall prosperity of the region.
