Tampere, Finland – The picturesque city of Tampere is currently the backdrop for an exciting new international crime series titled "Shadows of the Rising Sun." This groundbreaking show stars Finnish actor Jasper Pääkkönen and Japanese actress Anne Watanabe, bringing together talent from both countries in a thrilling narrative.

A Unique Collaboration

"Shadows of the Rising Sun" is a Finnish-Japanese co-production, marking a significant milestone in international television. The series follows detectives Jon Laine, played by Pääkkönen, and Aki Suzumiya, portrayed by Watanabe, as they team up to hunt down a serial killer. The show promises to blend the distinct cultural elements of Finland and Japan, offering viewers a unique and captivating experience.

Star-Studded Cast

Jasper Pääkkönen, known for his roles in "Vikings" and "BlacKkKlansman," brings his intense screen presence to the role of Jon Laine. Anne Watanabe, a celebrated actress, model, and singer in Japan, and the daughter of Hollywood actor Ken Watanabe, plays Aki Suzumiya. "Shadows of the Rising Sun" is set to premiere in 2026 on Nelonen Media's Ruutu streaming service in Finland and on WOWOW, Japan's first entertainment-focused pay channel. The series is produced by ICS Nordic and AX-ON, with support from the city of Tampere and Business Finland.
