New Zealand borders reopen for tourism

The New Zealand Government has announced the country’s borders will reopen to international visitors.

From 11.59pm on 12 April, fully vaccinated visitors from Australia, and from 11.59pm on 1 May, visitors from visa waiver countries will be able to enter New Zealand without needing to self-isolate on arrival.

Tourism New Zealand’s Chief Executive, René de Monchy, said: “We look forward to welcoming manuhiri [visitors], family and friends back very soon. We also look forward to working with our valued international airline partners who fly to our beautiful country.

“We’ll be ready to welcome your clients back to experience our breath-taking landscapes, rare and remarkable wildlife, rich culture and heritage. Our people and place are what make us unique, and we look forward to sharing this with the world again.”

From these dates, fully vaccinated visitors will no longer need to self-isolate on arrival on provision of a negative pre-departure test. Travellers will still be required to have a negative pre-departure test before flying and undertake two rapid antigen tests: one on arrival and one at day 5/6.
