Routes Awards

The Routes Awards will celebrate the outstanding achievements of our community in restoring global air connectivity.

What are the Routes Awards?

The partnerships between airlines, airports and the destinations they serve have never been more important. The Routes Awards celebrate this collaboration and highlight best practices within the route development community.

From individual leadership to results-driven marketing support, the awards are voted for and judged by members of the route development community. This is your opportunity to recognise the individuals and organisations that are innovative in their approach and leading the way.

How do I vote in the Routes Awards?

For the airport and destination categories, these are voted for by airlines. When voting opens, airlines can nominate up to five airports and destinations that they feel have provided exceptional marketing support over the past twelve months. Airlines are asked to submit their votes in priority order. When drawing up the shortlist, their first choice receives 5 points, their second choice receives 4 points, and so on.

For the airline category, this is voted for by airports and destinations. Our airline award focuses on the importance of partnership in achieving successful and profitable routes. When voting opens, airports and destinations can nominate up to five airlines that have embodied this collaborative approach. When drawing up the shortlist, their first choice receives 5 points, their second choice receives 4 points, and so on.

The Individual Leadership Award is open to applicants in a leadership role. It is on a self-nominating basis, where they can put themselves forward or be nominated by a colleague.

The Rising Star Award is open to applicants with five years or less experience in the route development industry. It will be on a self-nominating basis, where they can put themselves forward or be nominated by a colleague.

How are the shortlisted nominees decided?

When voting closes, airports and destinations are split into their relevant categories and their scores are calculated, based on the airline votes they have received. The airports and destinations with the highest votes are shortlisted.

For the airline category, the number of votes is calculated and those carriers with the most votes from airports and destinations are shortlisted. The airlines with the highest votes are shortlisted.

For individual categories, initial nominations are reviewed by an editorial panel looking for evidence of the judging criteria.

What happens if I am shortlisted for an award?

If you are shortlisted for an award, you will be contacted by a member of the Routes team, with details of the submission requirements and judging criteria.

You will then be given a deadline to send over your submission, along with any supporting documents. This will be then sent over to the judging panel.

Who scores the shortlisted nominees' submissions?

The judging panel for the airport and destination categories is drawn from key figures from the airline network planning community.

The judging panel for the individual leadership, rising star and airline categories is an editorial panel from industry publications.
