Lake Steinhude

The largest lake in Lower Saxony, Lake Steinhude is a popular place for yachting, surfing, kitesurfing, swimming and sunbathing. Tourists can hire an “Auswanderer”, one of Germany's traditional sailing boats, and visit the island of Wilhelmstein. Observation platforms along the 35km path surrounding the lake offer fantastic panoramas.
Marienburg Castle

A fairy-tale castle perched on a hilltop near the town of Pattensen, Marienburg Castle was the last summer residence of the Guelph Kings of Hannover. The splendid neo-gothic palace was built by King George V in the mid-19th century as a gift to his wife Mary.
The Deister

Germany’s northernmost highlands range, the Deister, is situated 30km south-west of Hannover. The range offers amazing walks at up to 405m above sea level, as well as picturesque picnic spots and rustic pubs. The location is popular in particular with mountain bikers who delight in the challenging downhill trails.
