China West Airport Group
Affiliated with the Shaanxi Provincial Government, China West Airport Group is the second-largest large-scale airport group in China that manages operations across the provinces. It oversees 18 airports across the three provinces of Shaanxi, Ningxia, and Qinghai and forms an airport cluster that is centered on Xi’an Xianyang International Airport, extending to Yinchuan Hedong International Airport and Xining Caojiapu International Airport. It’s supported by 12 branch airports and 3 general-purpose airports.
The Group is focused on its core aviation business while strategically positioning itself across the industrial chain and extending the value. It spans aviation logistics, aviation food processing, hotel and catering, advertising and media, information technology and other aviation-related sectors. With 21 second-level subsidiaries under its management, the Group has established a pattern of diversified, sector-based and large-scale collaborative development. By the end of 2023, the Group’s total assets amounted to RMB 63.30 billion, with a workforce of 16,000 employees.
Xi'an Xianyang International Airport
Xi’an Xianyang International Airport ranks among China’s top ten international air hubs, and is the largest and most capable airport in Northwest China in terms of comprehensive support capabilities. The airport features four terminals, two runways, and 122 parking stands. With a flight area rating of 4F, it can accommodate the take-off and landing of the largest civil aviation passenger and cargo aircraft in the world. The existing facilities can meet the demand of an annual passenger throughput of 50 million, with more than 60 airlines in operation.
Xi’an Xianyang International Airport has most robust connectivity in China’s domestic flight network. From the ancient “Silk Road” to today’s “Global Network”, it has significantly contributed to the increase in population, capital, and technology. The airport ranks among the leaders in business volume growth rate among all hub airports in China. Its flight punctuality consistently holds the top spot among the top ten airports in China and matches the advanced standards of airports of similar scale worldwide. The airport has repeatedly made it into World’s Best 50 Airports according to Skytrax and has earned the titles of Excellent Airport in China’s Civil Aviation Service Quality Evaluation and IATA’s Fast Travel Platinum Award.
The Phase-III Expansion Project of Xi’an Xianyang International Airport is a major construction project during China’s “14th Five-Year Plan” period and a national “Benchmark Demonstration Project” for civil aviation, constructed under the support of the Civil Aviation Administration of China. Designed to meet the targets of 83 million passengers, 1 million tons of cargo and mail, and 595,000 aircraft movements by 2030, the project has an estimated budget approval of RMB 46.90 billion. The current phase includes the construction of 3 runways, a 700,000-square-meter terminal, a 350,000-square-meter integrated transportation center and supporting facilities. The T5 terminal in the Phase-III Expansion Project of Xi’an Xianyang International Airport will officially begin operations on February 20, 2025.
