State of the Airline Industry in Latin America & the Caribbean
According to the latest forecasts from IATA, the future of the aviation industry in the Americas is promising. The Latin America and Caribbean region will grow by about 3.6 percent annually over the next two decades and by 2037 will carry 731 million passengers per year. That is an additional 371 million passengers annually compared with today.
This session will outline the latest news on the state of the industry in Latin America and Caribbean, including how the region could tackle their largest threats such as safety, infrastructure and the heavy taxes and charges imposed on aviation and air travel in many countries.

Panel Discussion: How can Latin America and the Caribbean fulfil their promise?
Latin America’s aviation industry is undergoing dynamic change, with improving infrastructure, increased liberalisation, greater operational efficiency for airlines, airport privatisation processes and new entrants to the market.
But is the region fulfilling its promise? While progress is being made, many of the major hubs are becoming saturated. High taxes and fees imposed by some governments also means that operating costs remain high.
This session will explore the current state of play in Latin America and the Caribbean, looking at future passenger demand and what must happen so that the region can keep pace. It will also assess the potential impact new partnerships, such as Delta’s joint venture with LATAM Airlines, will have on intra-Americas connectivity.

Fireside Chat
The future of the Americas
According to the latest forecasts from the International Air Transport Association, the future of the industry in the region is promising. Although the US is set to lose its crown to China as the largest aviation market in the world by the mid-2020s, the North American region will still grow by of 2.4 percent annually over the next two decades and will carry a total of 1.4 billion passengers by 2037. Likewise, Latin America will grow at an annual rate of 3.6 percent to 731 million passengers over the same period.
But increased passenger demand will bring significant challenges. Can the region’s airports cope with the infrastructure demands? How can efficiency be improved? How can the industry and governments work together to ensure the growth is sustainable? What impact will the changing political situation in certain Latin American countries have on the wider industry?

Panel Discussion: The transatlantic battle
The transatlantic market has enjoyed tremendous growth over the past decade, spurred by the rise of budget operators on Europe - North America routes. But entering such a competitive market dominated by immunised joint ventures is not for the fainthearted, as some new entrants have found out to their detriment.
Primera Air, WOW and XL Airways have all disappeared from our skies in recent years, while long-haul low-cost pioneer Norwegian has been forced to scale back its operations.
What does the future hold for this lucrative but challenging market? How will new longer-range aircraft change the outlook? What impact will new transatlantic alliances and joint ventures have?
