Exhibitor Information
Warning - Expo Guide, ExpoFairs, FairGuide.com & Construct Data Verlag
Expo-Guide and Fairguide.com regularly publicise their services to exhibitors at events throughout Europe, the Americas and Asia, claiming to offer online exhibition listing services. They use a misleading form (click here to view an example), which resembles an organiser’s catalogue listing service, inviting exhibitors to sign and return the form for an entry in an on-line directory.
Unsuspecting exhibitors are then contracted into a three-year, non-retractable agreement, which could cost you a significant amount of money, with no foreseeable benefits. Non-payment is then followed by aggressive debt collection by agencies including Gravis Inkasso Gmbh and Premium Recovery AG which work in partnership with the various guides to intimidate exhibitors into paying.
It is important that we make it perfectly clear that this is not an organisation that we have sanctioned to work on behalf of our shows and is in no way affiliated with the exhibition organiser UBM. Only companies listed and detailed within the Exhibitor Guide and Publicity forms have been officially appointed to provided services on behalf of the event.
Despite settling out of court and agreeing to stop sending out misleading forms, Fairguide have altered the look and format of their forms (including a new logo) and are continuing to send these to exhibitors, prompting the Association of Event Organisers (AEO) to issue the following warning:
Beware of the following organisations
It is important that the entire industry is made aware of activities relating to third parties contacting exhibitors for entries into show guides. An example of one such guide is Fairguide and more recently 'Expo-Guide'. We are strongly advising our members and all exhibitors to be vigilant against organisations such as these, who do not represent the good name developed within the exhibitions industry. Please warn all your exhibitors about such guides and more generally to carefully read small print details before signing any document.
Expo-Guide and Fairguide.com/Construct Data Verlag have no connection with exhibition organisers or any of their events but they deliberately target exhibitors who are about to exhibit across Europe.
If you have mistakenly responded you are advised to notify Expo-Guide that you signed in error and consider the contract invalid. You may use this letter of cancellation (Note: This is simply a modification of a previous letter used by victims of Construct Data, you may wish to use your own wording). It is anticipated that you will receive numerous correspondence detailing final reminders, offers of reduced settlement and threats of legal action, but to date we are not aware of any court action resulting.
If contacted by Expo-Guide you are advised to ignore the communication and on no account sign any documents.
