My Durban site visit – the city is ready to welcome you!
Rebecca Teale, Senior Host & Project Manager shares her experience from Durban after her trip last week
Last week I visited the wonderful city of Durban, host to World Routes 2015. The weather was a bit on the chilly side but Durban's warm hospitality more than made up for it. After a quick trip through the ever efficient King Shaka International Airport to our city centre hotel, I briefly considered going to bed but could not resist the thought of once again tasting the best steak I have ever eat so set of for the wonderful Butcher Boys located on Florida Road. The steak was amazing and the service excellent. I would advise pre-booking though, as is a popular spot especially at the weekends.
Following a full day of meetings I thought I deserved to treat myself so on my second night I headed off to The Oyster Box Hotel at Umlhanga Ridge, only 15 minutes by taxi from the city centre. There I drank cocktails in the amazing roof top bar and listened to live music. The view is spectacular and even better if you can get a seat on the terrace; again it’s probably worth pre-booking. Following on from my cocktail I walked the short distance up to Umhlanga Village where I dined at Olive and Oil. There is a wide choice of food suitable for all tastes and it’s really good value for money!
On my last day I was taken out to lunch to one of my favourite sights in Durban, The Moses Mabhida Stadium. There’s a variety of cafes and sandwich shops located right under the awnings of the great stadium, where you can sit and watch the tourists go by on their Segways.
To round up my trip, my final visit was once again to Florida Road, where I enjoyed the wonderful hospitality of the Durban/KZN team at a wonderful little Italian restaurant Spiga where you can sign your name on the wall as proof you visited Durban.
