China-US air capacity – time for new routes?
Following US President Barack Obama’s announced changes to the student, business and tourist visa programmes for visitors from China last month we decided to look at the impact this might have on traffic between the two countries.
If current growth continues, 2015 will see more than 6 million air passengers travel between the US and China. While passengers can choose to route via a number of other countries there are effectively only 24 airport-pairs between the two countries which offer direct air services. These use one of 12 US airports and one of 3 Chinese airports, Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.
